2 very large, very heavy, white porcelain mortars from France, both paired with wooden pestles.
Dating from the late 19thC these beauties were refound in a French pharmacy and would have been used for grinding herbs and medicines.
The Mortar on the left is of particular interest and rarity, by GDV Bruere (1877-1900). G.D.V. is the standard abbreviation for Girault, Demay et Vignolet Porzellanmanufaktur, a firm founded in 1877 near Breure, France, by Claude Girault, Louis Demay, and Jean Vignolet. The company took part in the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1900 and later did business under the name Cellinite.
