20th C, St Ives School, 'Gypsy Table,' Pat Algar
£375.00 Sold out
Very pretty, oil on board by British artist Pat Algar. (1939-2013). Calming lilacs, plums, and hyacinth colours in this sweetness and light piece. A three legged gypsy table before an open window, a pale, tissue pink rose in a vase. Is it evening or dawn? The palest primrose sky and a silhouette of moss colour trees.
Pat Algar 1939-2013 was born in London and studied at Wimbledon School of Art, where she gained The National Diploma in Design and won a place at the Royal Academy Schools. There she won several prizes for painting and drawing and was awarded the silver medal for composition, and gained the certificate of the Royal Academy Schools. Her work was bought by several collectors including Winsor and Newton.
In 1964 she moved to Cornwall to a cottage near Nancledra where she painted the beautiful surrounding country. In 1975 she moved to St Ives where her subjects were intimate interiors with everyday objects, often a window or a nude figure.
She has exhibited in many mixed shows and galleries in Cornwall, London and many other parts of England, and has had pictures exhibited in San Diego and Dallas USA.
