1950's, Still Life, 'Oignons' André Duffour
1950's, oil on board by French artist, Jacques André Duffour (1926-2016). This post impressionist still life depicts a wooden box, copper beech in colour, with a bundle of onions in their chestnut coloured skins, some already sprouting. The inky blue-black background gives definition to the still life. Richly painted in the main with some wonderful sketchy textures around the onions.
About the Artist
Duffour kept a studio for many years at 162 Rue de Temple, Paris working as a painter and graphic artist - designing many posters for exhibitions at The Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées, Paris. He exhibited his post impressionist paintings regularly at the Salon des Indépendants during the 1950's and 60's.
