Eyvind Olesen got his inspiration from van Gogh, this shows in pieces like the linoleum carving "Helhesten". This carving gives a typical illustration of the Danish Village life with a church, a mill, low houses with storks on the roofs and two women with their backs turned so the spectator can only guess that one of them must be the one carrying the eggs. This depicted little situation contains a lot of humour. Eyvind Olesen uses clear colours in the Ledreborg water-colour, which does not show one specific place the colours are almost too much dramatic with the strong green and yellow colours in the front at the meadow area and the dark blue in the background in the treetop area.
