20th Century Painting, 'The Housekeepers,' Mary Beresford Williams
When we buy paintings we are generally drawn to pieces that are charming, narrative and joyful. This fantastic painting ticks all of our boxes.
The scene is an English country house, Saltram House, Devon . The pony-tailed housekeeper, throws a dust sheet over a table, assisted by the maid in her blue tabard. Light streams in from the window highlighting the housekeepers face and making the sheet hum with translucency. The large mirror reflects a gallery of paintings.
Buy it before we decide to keep it.
