1926, French Oil Painting, 'Red Nude,' Emile Navarin
Glorious, 1926, French oil on canvas by Emile Navarin.
I'm not sure what I love the most, the bloom of her skin or the glow of the red textile. Thickly painted with a fiery richness the model sits on the edge of a bed, over which spills a vermillion patterned cover with a suggestion of toile de Jouy. Rolling drapes with wine bottle green fringing, frame her as if in a theatre. A spotlight of sunshine warms the left side of her body casting hard shadows. The upturned hand resting so casually, so beautifully conceived.
Ready to hang.
