Mid-century, Swedish Expressionist, 'In the Basement' Hans Nydahl (1884-1974)
Wonderful, mid century, still life by Swedish artist, Hans Nydahl. Reminiscent in execution of both Cezanne and Scottish colourist Samuel Peploe. This richly painted piece depicts a corked bottle, apple, bread and a luscious leek displayed on a petrol blue table in front of a sage green window.
"This is absolutely a painting done by my grandfather Hans Nydahl (1884-1974)
I have seen the painting in his and my grandmother Sandra's home in Malmoe
and the signature is definitely his. The title means "In the basement", that´s where he painted it."
Thomas Nydahl (grandson)
