Mid-century, 'On the Farm,' Gerhard Karlmark (1905-1976)
£695.00 Sold out
Mid-century oil painting, 'On the Farm,' by Swedish artist, Gerhard Karlmark (1905-1976).
For anyone who loves their children's picture books as much as I did (do), this wonderful naive narrative piece is such a joy. The bearded farmer waggles a rake at a beetroot coloured hen, the farmer's wife holds her swaddled baby, a donkey grazes on a winding Space Hopper coloured path. In the background a lady in a black pinafore pushes a small wooden cart. The saffron and opal green farmhouse sits wonkily in a mustard field and with childlike trees and billowing clouds.
